Description

Providing a continuous supply of clean water is one of the most crucial factors for the success of poultry farming.

Several factors influence water consumption, including temperature in the barn, humidity levels, feed composition, body weight, or a combination of these factors.

Clean and suitable drinking water with standard specifications should be provided to birds, with a moderate temperature (around 10-14°C). This is achieved through appropriate water flow rates in drinkers or nipple systems.

There are several methods for providing water to birds, including bell drinkers. The bell drinker consists of a circular cone connected to a water tube, suspended from the barn’s ceiling. The widely used current system involves nipple drinkers. This system comprises a long tube connected to a pressurized water source, with nipples at the bottom, each equipped with a metal pressure cap. A drop of water is suspended from the cap, and when the bird wants to drink, it moves the cap, allowing water to come out of the nipple. The height of the nipples can be adjusted to match the birds’ height as they grow. There are two types of nipples: high-flow and low-flow.
